York Literacy Council Announces Monthly Orientation Classes for High School Equivalency Classes

York County Literacy Council will hold free orientation classes for adults eighteen (18) years and older who would like to attend classes to pass the High School Equivalency test.  FREE Orientations will be offered monthly and will be held at York County Literacy Council, 800 E. King St., York, Pa.  17403.( Call for a schedule of orientations throughout the year).

Students who complete the orientation will be eligible to attend the free High School Equivalency classes.  The High School Equivalency Classes run for sixteen (16) weeks either afternoon 2 PM to 4 PM or evening 7 PM to 9 PM in a friendly learning atmosphere. The classes will help students to prepare for the HISET or GED exam.  The exam is given in sections which are taken separately.  Students can take one test at a time while they are preparing for the next exam.

 YCLC provides classes and tutoring for over 800 adult students including basic literacy classes, classes to obtain a High School Equivalency Diploma and English as a Second Language classes.

York Literacy Council's 'Citizenship Ready Program'

York County Literacy Council is providing a Citizenship Ready course through collaboration with PIRC, New Hope Ministries, CASA and YWCA-Hanover.   The course offers vital services to help non-English speakers gain the skills they need to be successful, prosper in their everyday lives, and become productive United States citizens. 

The curriculum will focus on standards for citizenship.  Lessons will include American Government, American History, Citizenship Test preparation and English language lessons for reading and writing, and consultation on the Naturalization and application processes. Classes are free. (16 week courses)
