Edward (Ned) Hill is Professor of Economic Development in The Ohio State University’s John Glenn College of Public Affairs and a member of the College of Engineering’s Ohio Manufacturing Institute. Dr. Hill is well known across the state for his work for Pennsylvania manufacturing including two key statewide reports: Manufacturing – Pennsylvania’s True Commonwealth (2011), and Manufacturing Pennsylvania’s Future (2004).
He has been recognized by The Ohio Manufacturers’ Association twice with the Legacy Award (2005, 2016) for his work on behalf of Ohio’s manufacturers. The Cincinnati Enquirer referred to Hill as the “godfather of tax reform” in the summer of 2005. Ned’s current research focuses on the impact of digital manufacturing on corporate strategy, investment, and workforce strategies that include focus groups involving nearly 70 manufacturers from across the country. His most recent book is Coping with Adversity: Regional Economic Resilience and Public Policy, published by Cornell University Press in 2017.
Ned has served as the editor of Economic Development Quarterly, Chair of the Advisory Board of the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Northeast Ohio Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
Dr. Hill currently teaches public economics, economic development, and state and local public policy. Prior to Ohio State, Ned served as a Dean at Cleveland State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning and Economics from MIT and his bachelor’s from University of Pennsylvania in Economics and Urban Planning.
